Plath Construction is a local contractor with the ability to manufacture various flashing profiles according to architectural specifications. In addition, we can manufacture custom gutters, downspouts, window trim, distinctive metal siding and ornate chimney cap designs. Plus, we operate a computerized Roper Whitney Metal Brake (14 gauge shear) that cuts 10′ long sheets of metal quickly and within one hundredth of an inch (.001″) tolerance. This machine has a memory bank that produces each piece with precision. We stock 16 and 20 ounce solid copper sheets as well as galvanized, paint lock and assorted painted metal in 24 and 26 gauge thicknesses. In conclusion, we have the capacity to fabricate and provide most standard Architectural Sheet Metal trim orders within 48 hours.
Most common metals:
Galvanized is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel. The coating is applied at the factory usually through hot-dipping. It has a metallic appearance and is easily roll formed or bent into shape. Paint can be applied to improve corrosion resistance.
Galvalume is a proprietary coating of aluminum, zinc and silicon used to coat steel sheets. It has a metallic look and can be painted. It is easily roll formed and bent into shape. General corrosion resistance is up to four times that of galvanized.
Painted metal (Kynar 500) is a factory applied final coating for aluminized steel. Our most popular metal, it is a high-performance fluoropolymer resin. This option is more expensive than Galvanized but it has extraordinary capability to retain color and gloss for the long term.
Corten is a weathering steel. Left uncoated, it develops an outer layer patina. A weathering treatment can be applied to accelerate the process. This patina protects the steel from additional corrosion.
Zinc is naturally occurring and is easy to form with complex shapes. With proper slope and ventilation, zinc is corrosion resistant. Zinc has a wide variety of color and finish options.
Copper is naturally occurring with superior formability. Copper is more expensive than our painted metal option and has excellent corrosion resistance. A protective natural patina forms over time or a patina treatment can be applied to the copper. Copper ages from a bright orange metallic luster all the way through to brown tones. With enough exposure, copper turns to a distinctive grey-green patina.
